| In the l960s, builder and home designer Harry O. Sitzberger saw the need for attractive, wear-resistant seamless floors in kitchens, baths, hallways and basements. There was a new product on the market at that time that showed promise. It was a clear epoxy with color chips suspended in the resin that created both a durable and decorative surface. Sitzberger started experimenting with epoxy systems and soon developed several innovative applications. His first products were well received by restaurants and food service establishments, farms and livestock businesses, and other small manufacturing firms. In 1968, Sitzberger started Surface Coating Consultants and began work on new applications for an expanding customer base. As epoxy research produced new and better products, Sitzberger's firm found ways to effectively restore deteriorating concrete and create surfaces capable of withstanding heavy loads, steel wheeled carts, acids and other corrosive agents. The customer base expanded to serve architects, paper mills and food manufacturers. By l975, the client list grew to include such well-known firms as Kimberly-Clark Corp., 3M, Ralston Purina, Proctor and Gamble, and Swiss Colony. In l986 the company name was changed to Protective Coating Specialists, Inc. to more fully reflect its mission as experts in epoxy coating solutions. |
